Sas airlines are the leading airline of Northern Europe. They catered to almost 150 destinations in 2008. 29 million passengers were facilitated by the flying services of sas airline in the year of 2008. sas airlines are now offering the facility of checking in the baggage from different international destinations to Swedish domestic destinations.

Sas airlines are collaborating with Swedish customs at Arlanda Airport and Swedish Civil Aviation Administration for the simplification of procedures for travelers within Sweden.  Peter Nilsson who is the Director of Swedish Domestic Routes at SAS in Sweden, stated that the customers who don’t have nay luggage for collection will not have to go to customs by themselves at Arlanda Airport, Stockholm, and so they don’t have to check in again for their final domestic destination. This service is implemented since 1 April 2009 up till 1 June 2009 in its full terms. The results will be monitored closely after this time period.

Director Peter Nilsson said that we are trying to simplify the procedure of traveling by implementing the strategy of checking in baggage through to final destinations. If they get positive feed back from customers on this strategy then it will become the permanent part of the airline services. As the strategy is applicable from 1st April so the travelers who are departing from international destinations are able to check their baggage through one of these final domestic destinations, Ängelholm/Helsingborg, Åre/Östersund, Gothenburg/Landvetter, Umeå, Kalmar, Sundsvall/ Härnösand, Luleå, Ronneby, Kiruna and Malmö.

However, the customers who have baggage for check in will have to go through customs at Arlanda Airport. Same rule is applied to the passengers who are traveling on international flights from Stockholm and holding animals. In this case baggage will be checked only at Arlanda and will be available on belts for reclaim of baggage.

The airport of Skellefteå is not included in the test of these rules, since it is not declared as an international airport yet, under the regulations of EU. However, the process for its certification is underway.

Environment is a big issue of this time for business, industry and policymakers of all kinds of organizations. Sas airlines have taken the responsibility, where too much fossil fuel is burned ultimately causing adverse impacts on environment.

Sas airline have taken the IPCC report into account which stated that the aviation is responsible for 2 to 3% emissions of green house. SAS have accepted the fact that polluter must pay for the damage it has caused to environment and also use the best technology feasible so that less pollution is generated by aircrafts of the company.
