Malaysian airlines were founded in 1987, the airline changed its name from Malaysian Airline System. Basically malaysia airline was established in 1947 by Malayan Airways. Then afterwards when Malaysia got its independence the company changed to malaysian airways. After a while the name of the company was changed to Malaysia-Singapore Airlines and after that company ceased its operations. Later on, company was divided in to malaysian airlines and Singapore Airlines. The airline operated within Malaysia and on many international routes. The flights of malaysia airlines started on October 1, 1927. Soon after its start the company expanded its services and started long distance flights from Kuala Lumpur to London.
In the same year of 1927, malaysian airlines covered 34 domestic destinations and almost 6 international destinations. In 1976, malaysia airlines started their flights to some destinations of Europe. Initial ones included flights from Kuala Lumpur to Paris, Frankfurt and Amsterdam. At the end of 1980s, malaysia airline was flying to more than 47 destinations in the whole world, it included 8 European destinations, 2 destinations in United States of America namely- Honolulu and Los Angeles and 7 Oceania destinations. Malaysian airways became the first ones in Southeast Asia to serve South America through its flights. The destinations which were covered included Argentina and Buenos Aires. Company extended their services to Central America but those were terminated in 1990.
There are many facilities to the passengers of malaysia airlines. Travelers can check in between 2 and 48 hours before the departure of flight. This facility can be availed through counter or through the premium class Golden Lounge present within the airport. Kuala Lumpur International Airport also offers Self Service Kiosks (CUSS). Other passengers can check in through internet or phone at the terminal of KL Sentral City Air Terminal. Passengers of short trips also have the facility of checking-in for their flight of return from their city of departure.

All clubs of the lounge have open bars and food catering. These lounges are run by the selected partners of malaysia airlines. The Golden Lounges offer wide range of services that include Food catering, Business centres, Child care centres and Slumber rooms.
