Iberia airlines were started in June 28, 1927. The initial investment was done by Lufthansa and Horacio Echeberrieta, the amount they invested was 1.1 million pesetas. Iberia air is the official airline of Spain. They operate from Madrid and cover international destinations. Iberia airlines have their main hubs at Barcelona EI Prat Airport and Madrid-Barajas Airport.
In the last year, 2008, iberia airline earned the net profit of €32 million. In 2007 company earned the profit of €327.6 million, in 2006 the amount of net profit was €56.7 million and in 2005 airline saved €395 million. Iberia airlines have the history of 13 years of profit. Airline served 27,799,000 travelers in the year of 2006 and 27,675,000 in 2005.
Iberia airline started their flights on December 14,1927. Within this year the airline was sponsored by the government of Spain to provide postal transportation between Barcelona and Madrid.
Iberia regional which is operated by an independent carrier Air Nostrum and iberia airlines are part of Iberia group.The group provides many other services along with transporting passengers. The other operations of the group include air craft’s maintenenace, maintenance of I.T system, airport handling and catering in flight.
Iberia group covers more than 102 destinations in almost 39 countries. There are also flights to other 90 destinations which are managed by code-sharing arrangements with some other firms.
Iberia airlines introduced business + class in 2005, the addition was made on the Airbus A340 aircraft. Iberia airline announced that it would renovate its economy class in the years of 2009-2011. Company also announced that they would design a new business class for their long haul planes.
In addition to that iberia is also an aircraft maintenance firm which serve its own fleet and also the fleets of other 48 companies. That include some of the leading airlines of europe. Iberia is also a supplier of services for aircraft handling at all airports of Spain. The number of its airline clients is more then 200.
Iberia airlines demand their customers to print their boarding pases and e-tickets before they board on flight. Passengers with less baggage or only carry on luggage are encouraged to go to boarding gate directly. The e-tickets sold were the 93% of all the tickets sold in Januanry 2006. In Spain they perform the identification of traveler through identity document.
Iberia airlines have confirmed in 2008 that they would restart their flying services to Asuncion. They are also considering to restart their flights to Canada and Japan. Also air line is planning to expand their network in North American and Asian countries.
