Expressjet airlines were established in 1986 when continental airlines purchased many small regional airlines. In the beginning these acquisitions included Denver’s Pioneer, Houston’s Royale Airways and Honolulu’s Mid Pacific Air. Express jet airlines were set up as Continental Express and soon the company flourished by doing many code share agreements that included Texas air, Rocky Mountains, Southern Jersey, Province town Boston airline and Britt airways. In the year of 2002, expressjet airlines spun off Express jet holdings and made their initial public offering at $16 per share and that amount was raised immediately to $500 million.
In the year of 2006, expressjet airlines became the world’s largest operators of regional air craft. As for now, express jet airlines holdings are invested in number of businesses related to airlines in terms of partnerships and investments.
Expressjet airlines have strong linkage with Embraer and it is evident from their status as the 1996 customers launch and also the 200+ planes from Embraer that are used by express jet airlines. The fleet of expressjet airlines is formed by Embraer ERJ-145XR and ERJ-145. The airline has 214 planes which are operating as continental express. Along with this there are 30 planes which are working for expressjet airlines corporate aviation division in terms of corporate charter.
The average fleet age of the airline is six years approximately. The air craft Embraer ERJ-145 has the capacity of 50 seats with a maximum flying range of 1,550 nautical miles. This air craft is also a part of the fleet of expressjet airlines. The above mentioned distance is almost from Chicago to Francisco, with a maximum speed of Mach 78. This air craft was built for the very first time in the year of 1989.
Another air craft which is a major part of the express jet airlines is Embraer ERJ-145XR. The maximum flight range for this air craft is 2000 nautical miles, it has a capacity of 50 seats and the maximum speed of the airline is Mach 80. This air craft, Embraer ERJ – 145XR was developed and designed for the improved range so that express jet airlines can cover more destinations. In the current scenario, XR air craft are used by express jet airline only.
Another great feature of the airline is its endorsement of environment protection programs. Express jet airlines have participated in many on board recycling programs to save a large amount of plastic etc from going in to landfills. Express jet airlines fly a brand new fleet of Embraer air craft to reduce fuel consumption and hydrocarbon emission.
