Emirates airlines were established as the official international airline of United Arab Emirates, just twenty years ago. Emirates airline flew their first flights out of Dubai on 25th October 1985. At that time airline only had two leased aircrafts, one was Boeing 737 and other was Airbus 300 B4. emirates airlines wanted to concentrate on quality and not on quantity. Emirates airlines have seen a prominent growth of 20% every year, and have been generating profits since their very first year in the business till now. The company has generated record profit of Dhs 5.3 billion which is 1.45 billion US dollars, in the last year’s financial year which ended up on 31 March 2008. That gave an increase of 31.8 percent in terms of profit generated last year.
The airline now includes complete leisure and destinations management division, award winning cargo division of international level, an international ground handler and IT developer of airline.
Emirates airlines have a fleet of 134 aircrafts and cover to almost 100 destinations in approximately 60 countries around the world. More than 700 flights leave Dubai per week for different destinations in six continents all around the world. That caters to 40% of all flights coming in and going out of Dubai, emirates airline has a goal of taking this figure to 70% by the year 2010.
Emirates airlines have ordered for new 12 777-300ERs, which cost 3.2 billion US dollars. With this deal emirates airline now has 48 Boeing 777 and is all set to become the world’s largest operator of 777 in coming years. The current orders of emirates airlines cater to more than 160 aircrafts. The cost of this whole package is approximately 50 billion US Dollars.
