Cyprus airways is the national carrier of Cyprus. It was established in 1947 in the month of September. There are three share holders who contributed to start this service that include British European Airways as they have shares of 44.9%, Cyprus Government with shares of 22.45% and many individuals who have the shares of 32.65%. This newly established airline achieved the status of lift off with the help of three Douglas Dakota aircrafts which are 21 seater air crafts. Cyprus airways have been operating from the airport which was established in Nicosia. In those starting years, this airline provided services to London, Athens, Cairo, Beirut, Istanbul, Alexandria, Rome and Haifa.

In the next three years, the fleet was doubled in size with the addition of brand new three Dakotas. Cyprus airlines catered to six more destinations in the mean time which included flights to Khartoum through Wadi Haifa, Bahrain, Kuwait, Lydda, Baghdad and Amman. In the year of 1952 the air craft Dakota was proved to be inadequate for Nicosia and London Services so the airline made an agreement with BEA for the operation of newly-delivered Airspeed Ambassador.

With the start of new century Cyprus airlines introduced a whole new look in their uniforms of in flight attendants and also the ground staff of Cyprus airways along with Eurocypria. These new uniforms had the main colors of the company which include yellow and blue. There were many crucial decisions taken for the better future of the company as there was decision to expand and renew the fleet. Along with that, Cyprus airlines decided to enhance their support and improve facilities and services for on board aircraft. As practical implementation of this strategic plan a new entertainment audiovisual system was installed on the Airbus of A320 which offered the variety in music and films for the viewers. As far as on ground services are concerned, a call center was developed as a part of the customer management scheme so that customers can have 24 hour support with the description of travel information about Cyprus airways.

Currenlty, Cyprus airlines are serving to 31 scheduled destinations in all over Europe Near and Middle East and also in Gulf Area. These destinations include Amsterdam, London (Gatwick, Heathrow and Stansted), Brussels, Moscow, Frankfurt, Zurich, Paris, Vienna, Manchester, Birmingham, Rome, Milan, Rhodes, Salonica Heraklion, Tel-Aviv, Cairo, Damascus, Beirut, Bahrain, Jeddah, Amman, Riyadh and Dubai.

Cyprus airlines have signed code share agreements with many other airlines to provide best services for their clients. With the passage of time, the airline is improving its services and providing more relaxed and comfortable journey to its passengers along with catering to many more destinations.
