Asiana airlines is one of the two major airlines of South Korea, it was formerly known as Seoul Airlines and the air line is still operating from Seoul , South Korea but now named as asiana airline. It is one of the few, only six airlines which have received the rating of five star from skytrax. The airline is also the member of Star Alliance. There are 12 domestic destinations covered by asiana air along with 82 international destinations and 21 countries are served in the whole world by this airline. The main head quarter of the air line is located at Incheon International Airport near Seoul whereas, its domestic hub is located at Gimp International Airport.

Asiana airline was established in February of 1988 and the airline has started its operations to Busan, in the December of 1988. Initially, it was formed by Kumho Asiana Group as the Korean Government wanted to establish another national carrier airline, so this was named as Seoul Air international. After few years the airline was privatized by the government, as there was increase of 20% to 50%. As for now the airline is owned by private investors at 30.53%, Kumho Petrochemical 15.05%, Kumho Industrial 29.51%, Korean development bank 7.18% and others at 5.83%. Currently the airline has 7,799 employees.

Asiana airlines have shown immense growth since their establishment in the year of 1988 and now the airline has become global, midsized carrier with a fleet of 69 air crafts which are serving 66 cities in 21 countries and in total 82 routes. On domestic level, airline is catering to 12 cities on 15 routes. In the year of 2007 the total sales of the company were approximately 3 billion U.S dollars.

In the year of 2006 asiana airline have made few changes to modernise and harmonise with the other divisions of its basic parent company Kumho Asiana Group. They changed the names of their travel classes to First, Business and Travel class from First Class, Business Class and Economy Class. Asiana air has also changed its colors to yellow, blue and red for First, Business and Travel class respectively. The crew of the airline has been given a new uniform.

Asiana airline have got the most prestigious award of airline of the year, by air transport world on 17 February 2009. In the year of 2007, skytrax have presented asiana airline with the award of five star airline , there are only 6 other airlines who have already won this status. They include Malaysian airlines, cathay pacific, singapore airlines, qatar airways and kingfisher airlines.
