Alaskan airline is based in Washington D.C, Sea Tac, United States of America close to Seattle. Alaskan air performs its tasks through four hubs. They are located at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, Los Angeles International Airport and Portland International Airport.
It started of as McGee Airways in 1932. At that time they provided flying services to Anchorage and Bristol Bay with the help of Stinson air craft which had single engine and could carry only three passengers at a time. Later on business expanded through Alaska. In 1942 it was given name of ALASKA STAR AIRLINE. Alaskan airways saw big achievement in 1961 when they started their jet age with Convair CV-880. They got their name as alaskan airlines in 1944. Another big achievement came into the pocket of alaskan air in 1987 when two other air compoanies namely Horizon air and Jet America Airlines merged into them and all came under the banner of alaskan airline.
The routes of alaskan airlines expand in more then 92 cities in Canada, United States and Mexico. Alaska air have started their charter flights to Russian Far East in late 1960’s. In 1991 airline began their scheduled flights to Russian Soviet Union, but stopped services in 1991 due to break up of Soviet Union.
Alaskan airline has been the largest carrier on US west cost along with the largest ones within Alaska. They also had strong presence in Portland, Seatle, the Los Angeles Metro Area and San Francisco Bay Area. They served in all major 5 Los Angeles areas and 3 Bay area major airports.
In 1999, alaskan airline started more long haul flights with the delivery of 737. In the year of 2000, alaska air started their services between Chicago and Anchorage. The air line started non-stop flight from Washington D.C to Seatle but had to stop it due to attacks of Septermber-11,2001. They resumed their services with additional flight in the later year. Alaskan airways also started non-stop services from Los Angeles to Washington.
Alaskan airlines started their other long haul flights from Seatle in 2001. That included flights to Miami, Orlando, Boston, Newark and Dallas. Alaskan airline began thier services to Hawaii in 2007 and now they are providing non-stop flights to Lihue, Honolulu, Kona and Kahului. They have launched their services to many other cities recenlty and their network is expanding with every passing day. Despite of the fact that industry has faced slum from the start of this century, alaskan airlines have managed to increase their route system by impressive figure of 40 percent.
